Al-Mahdi Islamic Community Centre

Founded in 1993 in London, Ontario, the Al-Mahdi Islamic Community Centre began as Almehdi Almuntathar Union, in response to the growing needs of the local Shia Muslim community. Initially, our community gathered for Islamic and social events hosted in their homes, but as we expanded, it became clear that a dedicated space and more programming offerings were essential. With the guidance of Shaikh Majeed Al-Saimari, we officially established our organization and rented a space to serve as a hub for our activities, operating under “Almehdi Almuntathar Union”.

After many years of work and dedication, and in response to the growth in diversity amongst our community, the Union made the purchase of a half-acre property in South London to be used as the site of our new Mosque and Husseineya. Construction began in November of 2005 with the vision of a long term project to establish an Islamic community center that had a school, a library, and a learning centre. Alhamdulillah construction was completed and the Centre was operational in November 2006, operating under the name of Al-Mahdi Islamic Community Centre.
Today, the Al-Mahdi Islamic Community Centre stands as a beacon for worship, education, and social gatherings, promoting the teachings of Islam according to the Ahlul Bayt School of thought. We pride ourselves on our diverse community of over 1500+, which includes South Asians, Middle Eastern and Arabs, reverts, Khojas, and individuals from various other backgrounds. This rich diversity enhances our programs, often offered in three different languages, making our Centre a truly inclusive space for all.
